It’s Thyme to Dye
I have been off creating and exploring new mediums and for 2023 I have landed on yarn.
I’m currently hard at work weaving as well, working in new Alpaca fibers from Gist Yarn, and restoring a loom I was gifted by my Nana. More on that later, but for now, back to yarn.
Last year with the School of Sweet Georgia scholarship, I went through a lot of Felicia’s early courses on dyeing. I also looked back at some of my old (and current) aspirational dyers such as ChemKnits on YouTube. For 2023, I decided it’s time to just get to work! I decided to create a monthly fiber collection for each month of the year. I create, film, and share in short form that month, then release on my shop the following month to share with you all! I’m learning and funding my fiber practice!
One of my goals last year was to develop a process for predictable/repeatable colorways and I think I’ve got that down. For the month of January, I worked on semisolids, color recreation, and natural inspiration. The video here has a mashup of all of last months videos which can be seen in short form on Instagram and TikTok!
I’m hard at work on February’s yarns and the first color is being shared on February 20th. February will be all about texture, irregularity, and again embracing the natural, moving into springy colors. New yarns launch on March 4, and the yarns in this video are available now at the link on my homepage, or in the footer! Head over to YouTube for more information in the description box. I’m prepping a detailed writeup I’m sharing in the SOS forums as well once, I sort through all of my notes and footage!
