My First Twill Project
This week I posted the video of my first twill scarf! This was a warm-up project for the School of Sweet Georgia Twills Study Group. In this project I was getting to know my brand new Louët Erica, and playing around with a basic 2/2 pattern I came up with!
See below for a look at photos and my update from back in January as I was working on this piece:
With the new year fresh in tow, I have moved to a new loom. My loom collection has grown. I’ve recently purchased a multishaft loom by Louët, the Erica, in celebration of my December birthday and Christmas. On New Year’s eve, I spent the evening winding my last warp of 2021 and on New Year’s day, I began weaving my first project. Three days on the loom and we have our first multishaft twill. I’m naming this pattern “Lost Unicorn” with a path that wanders more in one direction than the other, occasionally turning back and even more rarely, a double turn.
Warp: Fingering weight 70% Merino 30% Silk in 3 color Fibonacci sequence sleyed at 10epi
Weft: Light Fingering weight, hand-painted Superwash Highland wool in lighter tints of the warp.
Woven unbalanced with weft laid closer to 15epi - I have found I prefer superwash packed in and the resulting fabrics are not stiff or rough when beat with care. Finished in a 2-hour cold vinegar soak followed by tepid no-rinse wool wash and jasmine.
