January 2022
Here is a monthly retrospective! This youtube video showcases all of my completed projects this January. I found joy and calm in discovering new twills and spinning gradients. I also began a new session at the School of Sweet Georgia, participating in their Weaving Study Group. See below* for some pictures of my projects mentioned in this video!

Twill Gamp
A twill gamp, woven in Merino/Silk weft on a natural undyed barber pole wool warp. Class project for the School of Sweet Georgia Weaving Study Group. Woven tromp as writ from the SoS draft.

Twill Gamp #2
A second Twill Gamp woven on the same warp using a supersoft highland wool weft. This was woven with treadlings of my choice, three M & W variations i love and a repeat of the first straigh draw for tension/beating practice.

Loving boat shuttles.
I have always used stick shuttles in my weaving. The swap over to boats this January as I started my multishaft studies has been such a godsend. My weaving is faster, less manually intensive, and these shuttles are stunning to boot. The walnut is handmade by Janet Fox @Handywomanshop

Color x Twill Gamp
This was a second project woven on one warp from my color gamp study. 16 colors (17 including border) and my own combo of threadings. This is a 40 thread pattern repeat, mirrored in the middle. I treadled half of the threading to make the pattern which I plan to adapt to a scarf. I wanted to see these colors interact in twill which is so different from tabby weave.

Color x Tabby Gamp
This is the first project on my color gamp warp. I wanted to see how palette wool stood up to tension on my Louë, and also the colors i could achieve in future works. This color gamp is arranged by Hue, not Tint, Tone, or Shade. I prefer colors organized by hue as my eye can see when they are not. I ended up with 16 horizontal and 31 vertical sections as I alternated colors after solids in the weft.

Handspun Yarn
I took a break from weaving to spin. These were all spun on my Ashford E-Spinner 3 wheel. The neutral skein, peach cobbler skein, and micro skein are all 100% Falkland Wool, hand dyed. The 2nd and 3rd from the top, rainbow skeins, are about 60% Falkland, 40% Merino, fractal spun double rainbow gradient. Broken in two skeins because of my small niddy noddy.

Ocean Scarf
A Scarf inspired by the zones of the ocean from light blue sunlight zone, through twilight and deep, all the way to the bioluminescent abyss in the glowing purple. I was feeling camp and wanted a theme. warp and border in supersoft Highland, body weft in Merino/Silk.

First Twill Ever - Lost Unicorn
My first full twill (excluding a small sampler to make sure I built the loom correctly). A Handpainted Superwash wool weft, Merino/Silk warp, and end of weft section. Threaded straight draw and woven in a wandering/advancing twill with intermittent Ms/Ws.

Preliminary color gamp warp bundles
I removed the dark, contrasting warp sections while dressing the loom. I decided I wanted smooth color transitions rather than stripes or squares. The joy of making your own patterns is changing on the fly and not worrying it isn’t the right outcome.
